Ladies' Race | Great Eastern Women's Run

Wednesday, 12 November 2014

Good morning, today I am here to blog about my very first experience for a public race/run in Singapore. So even though I've always enjoyed running as a form of stress relieving session or to keep myself healthy & fit, I've never had the chance to sign up for runs like the Colour Run, Illumni Run, Zombie Run etc. As much as I desired to do so, I couldn't afford for them and various other reasons which I don't think there's a need for me to mention. Therefore, what made me sign up for this GEWR actually?

I wasn't even aware of this run or any other runs because me, being a pretty much ignorant person, is rarely aware of what's going on around me in Singapore (E.g what events are actually being held, IT fairs, etc). So yes you can say that I'm most of the times outdated. One day Mindy asked a few of my friends and I, whether we were keen to sign up for this run with her. So none of them wanted to except for me, and I guess it's good because Mindy knows that I do enjoy running. Initially I was quite hesitant to do so because I was afraid I couldn't afford it, and I was turned off by the fact that it is going to be a morning race. Well... I've no objections, but at that point of time I thought it sucked because it means that I'll have to wake up super duper early in the morning to reach there on time.

Why did I decide to go? Maybe you should give an applause to this cutie babe of mine for persuading & tempting me so much back then. What was even more attractive to me was that they had this buddy package for $54. Do some math and there you go, each of us only needed to pay $27. So why not? For a first race it's a simple, cheap and good warm-up before we move on to signing up for more expensive runs in the future.

After that I was excited for this run and the day to collect the race pack came. The race pack was packed in a pretty, pinkish reddish, average sized dufflle bag. It isn't too big nor is it too small, and I've gotta say I really love the bag. Since I've always wanted a nice duffle bag with a good size to carry around especially to the gym and such, I was really happy to receive it. Of course, the things given were great too. But well I'm too lazy to take photos of them so I shall not

Coming to the day of the race on 9th November.

We were supposed to arrive at the destination by 7.40am which is the flag-off time. As I traveled to Promenade station by the MRT that day to meet up with Mindy, ladies in red sleeveless tops for GEWR could be seen everywhere. That's not all, when we both arrived at the baggage deposit area, the place was flooded with women that I was actually pretty amazed by such a sight. Okay I know it's weird but.. It was my first time around so damn many women. Hahaha.

So blablabla all the baggage deposit process and walking. Then the race finally started. Guess what? We were so near the Singapore Flyer. I swear it was my first time seeing it so up-close that with every chance I had, I'd snap a photo of it, hoping to catch a good shot. So I guess I did here and there, and of course, there was the morning sun too.

.....

We finally got our first medal hehehe. All the photos taken of the sceneries and landscapes are absolutely 100% no filter except for the first black and white photo of the SG flyer. I'm pretty amazed at how I managed to take those photos with my phone's camera. Sunlight is the best filter after all don't you agree? My photography skills may not be professional, and I've yet to own a DSLR of my own although I'm dying to own one.. However I'm pretty satisfied with the photos I took.

Well since I usually run 4 to 5km at least when I exercise, I didn't really sweat much because of the pace we had to run at due to the huge crowd. So apparently it was pretty much like I paid $27 just to run, however I honestly think it's a great experience to be running in such an event. Oh yes of course, the views were definitely breathtaking. But what matters is that you enjoy the time spent with the person you signed up with, right? :) That's about all. Because we didn't want to feel uncomfortable and be stinky everywhere, we went all the way to Bedok's swimming complex just to shower. Maybe we are the only ones who would do that but yes we really did.

Why did we do that when we could just go back home? It's because we were going on our date at......

GUESS WHICH CAFE?

Stay tuned for my review on this cozy little cafe we dropped by!  Enjoy the photos!

Pretty sporty looking don't you agree? It's gonna be a very useful bag to me in the future.

Now the pictures shall do the talking. :)
